Make something of it! Creative textiles with Jane Glennie

6 May - 12 May 2012

jane_glennie_love.jpgThe idea of the ‘Make something of it...’ workshop is to loosen up and start creating – sewing, stitching and constructing - with recycled fabrics. Recycling builds creative skills offering endless possibilities and unexpected results. You will be encouraged to create things from recycled fabrics and old clothes (yes, it’s environmentally friendly) and make something more of your creativity.

Do you dream of making accessories for yourself or things for your home?
Would you like to express yourself in art textiles?
Do you want to create your own designs and discover or develop your creativity with textiles?

If ‘YES’ come and find inspiration and fresh ideas in beautiful Burgundy as artist and designer Jane Glennie leads you through a week of learning and experimentation.

Break away from patterns and measurements and be inventive as you discover which strategies work best for you – sketching, photographing, thinking, feeling, talking or writing. Would the shape of a vine leaf, the colour of a Burgundy landscape at daybreak, the history of a chateau, a conversation over a glass of wine, or the patterns on a medieval building inspire you? From your base at Les Cerisiers explore places such as the amazing Arboretum de Pezanin, the buildings of atmospheric medieval Cluny or discover fleece, wool and yarn at the Musée de la Filature. Then translate your inspirations into your designs and original artwork with new found confidence.

Jane Glenne has always sewn, and up-cycled old clothes and fabrics long before it became a trend. Having launched her own freelance design practice 16 years ago she has worked for clients such as Orange, Wiltshire County Council and the University of Reading. Her textile work has been exhibited at galleries across the UK and at the Festival of Quilts. She organised the ‘Whatever floats your boat...’ contemporary textiles exhibition at Slough Museum, which has been granted the London 2012 Inspire Mark, part of the Cultural Olympiad programme. Jane leads workshops in schools and will be a tutor for the 2011 Knitting & Stitching Shows workshop programme in London, Harrogate and Dublin http://www.makesomethingofit.co.uk
