Burgundy reflections in textile With Gillian Travis
22 April - 29 April 2012
This region of quiet beauty and charm, of mist embraced hills, creamy cattle drinking from still pools and rickety stone hamlets nestled in lush valleys provides the perfect backdrop for our creative textile course. Award winning textile artist, Gillian Travis, will be here to guide you through the week exploring both the local area and her innovative textile techniques.
As part of your adventure you can visit the Plassard wool centre,http://www.musee-filature.com, wander around Romanesque churches, take in some amazing views and stroll around the lake at Pezenin (in France’s oldest arboretum).
Drawing on the flora, fauna, architecture and rhythm of the region, once back at the ‘Atelier’ studio, learn how to interpret what you have seen using techniques such as fabric painting, block printing and maybe felt and silk paper making and machine stitch.
The atmosphere is easy going and informal with plenty of time for walks in the fresh air, relaxation, sampling the regional culinary specialities and sipping the local wines. The studio is available for your use throughout your stay.

Gillian is an experienced textiles tutor who is regularly inspired by her travels and the surrounding landscape. We are thrilled that she has decided to travel to join us in Burgundy.
Based in a small village in the South Pennines, Gillian offers creative textile classes as well as developing her own work specialising in print, paint, felt and machine stitch. Examples of her work can be found at her website: http://www.gilliantravis.co.uk
The event takes place in our beautifully renovated barn
